Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio- Mount Union's baseball team defeated Hiram 18-3 in a non-conference game Wednesday April 23 at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders have won eight of their last nine games and improve to 20-10 overall while the Terriers fall to 11-16 overall.
Mount Union jumped out to an early lead in the first inning scoring five of the 18 runs off of four walks, two singles and a hit by pitch advance. The Raiders had three runs over the next two innings then drove home six more in the sixth and four in the seventh leading to the 18-3 victory.
Sean Mohney (Lodi/Cloverleaf) led the Raiders with four RBI on two hits and one walk on the day. Connor Mathis (Akron/Firestone), Anthony Morino (Strongsville/Strongsville), Lee Grosscup (Green/Green) and Jeff Bennett (Hartville/Lake) each drove in two runs while Ben Atkinson (Carrollton/Carrollton), Evan Knott (Canton/GlenOak) and Ricky Olasz (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) drove in a run apiece.
Kyle Toma (Strongsville/Strongsville) got the win for Mount Union as he went five innings and gave up six hits, three earned runs, had one walk and four strikeouts.
For the Terriers, Jaren Bell went two for three on the day while Tim Calhoun led the way with two RBI.
The Purple Raiders close out their home portion of the schedule with an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday, April 26 against Wilmington at 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
