Softball: Big Inning Gives Mount Union Split at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- Mount Union scored six runs in the seventh inning of game one to score a 7-2 win in a split at Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference series Thursday in New Concord, Ohio.

The Purple Raiders are now 13-13-1 overall and 7-7 in the OAC while Muskingum moves to 18-12 overall and 9-5 in the OAC.

In game one, Muskingum had a 2-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh. With one out, Olivia Schumacher (Gahanna/Gahanna Lincoln) had a double and later scored on a Shelby Carmichael (Dalton/Dalton) single. Carmichael eventually scored the go ahead run when Chelsea Obrzut (Round Rock, TX/Medina) drew a bases loaded walk. Lindsay Gerhart (Westerville/Westerville South) also got an RBI on a walk and Logan Lehman (Orrville/Orrville) had a two-RBI single.

Michelle Stiltner (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) allowed only two runs in getting the compete game victory to improve to 10-5 on the season.

In game two, Mount Union scored three runs in the top of the first before Muskingum plated a run in the first, two in the third and then took control of the game with a five-run fourth inning.

Obrzut and Andi VanSickle (Loudonville/Loudonville) each had two hits for the Raiders.

Mount Union finishes the home portion of the 2014 schedule tomorrow at 1 pm against Baldwin Wallace.
