ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Jeff Bennett (Uniontown/Lake) hit a two-run home run to snap a 3-3 and Mount Union went on to a 6-3 win over Penn State-Behrend Sunday at 23rd Street in Alliance.

The score was tied at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when Sean Mohney (Lodi/Cloverleaf) hit a ball to deep shortstop where a play was made to first base and he was initially called out but the home plate umpire ruled that the first baseman had been pulled off the bag.  Bennett was the next batter to the plate and he hit his first home run of the season to give the Purple Raiders a 5-3 lead.

Later in the frame, Mitchell Lake (Orwell/Grand Valley) would bring home a run on an RBI ground out to make the score 6-3.

Bennett also had a hand in the Raiders first run in the second inning as he hit a two-out single down the left field line and Ben Atkinson (Carrollton/Carrollton) brought him home with a triple.

Penn State-Behrend (12-9) would get all three of its runs in the fourth inning taking advantage of a past ball and two Mount Union errors to take a 3-1 lead.

The Raiders would tie the game with two runs in the fifth one of those runs came on an RBI single from Scott Sherwood (Mentor/Mentor).

Four Mount Union pitchers combined to allow just seven hits as Kyle Toma (Strongsville/Strongsville) picked up the win out of the pen while Mike Horning (Avon/Avon) got his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Mount Union is now 15-9 on the season and the Raiders continue the current four-game homestand Tuesday at 1 pm with a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games against Muskingum at 23rd Street Field.
