NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Mount Union's women's softball team split a pair of games in the second day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic as it defeated Lycoming (Pa.) 4-3 and fell to Ferrum (Va.) 4-1 Tuesday in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Lycoming would take a 1-0 lead in the first, before the Purple Raiders would get the bats going. Shelby Carmichael (Dalton/Dalton) got the bats going singling to and would steal second base. Chelsea Obrzut (Round Rock, TX/Medina) would strike out but would reach first on an error by the catcher allowing Carmichael to score and tie the game at 1 apiece. Obrzut would steal second and third base, bringing Krista Leighty (Wooster/Triway) to the plate and nabbing a single.

Olivia Schumacher (Gahanna/Gahanna Lincoln) would round out the singles for the inning brining Obrzut home to take a 2-1 lead over Lycoming.

Lycoming took down the Raiders first two batters in the bottom of the fourth, bringing to the plate Schumacher, with Andi VanSickle (Loundville/Loundonville) at first base, who would hit her first collegiate homerun putting the Raiders up 4-1.

Lycoming generated three runs in the top of six to tie the game at four, the Raiders would defeat Lycoming in extra innings as Leighty would reach first on fielder's choice and Torie Gable (Norton/Norton) would score at home to make it the final 5-4.

Schumacher would get the only run for the Raiders, getting her second homerun of the season in the 4-1 loss to Ferrum.

Erin Simmons (Suffield/Field) had nine strikeouts and only allowed 3 hits in the game.

Mount Union (2-3) returns to action Wednesday with two more games where they will face Gwynedd Mercy (Pa.) at 9:30 a.m. and NCAA Division II Malone at 1:30 p.m.
