Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Mount Union's baseball team shut out Rose-Hulman (Ind.) 7-0 in a rain shortened eight inning game Tuesday at Chain O'Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla.
The Purple Raiders are now 5-0 to start the season while Rose-Hulman falls to 2-1 overall.
Mount Union got a strong start from sophomore pitcher Kyle Toma (Strongsville/Strongsville) who in his first career start for the Raiders allowed only three hits over the first six innings to pick up his first win of the season.
Ryan Sason (Mentor/Lake Catholic) surrendered only two hits over the next two innings to preserve the shutout.
The Raiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after walks to Connor Mathis (Akron/Firestone) and Anthony Morino (Strongsville/Strongsville) -- Lee Grosscup (Green/Green) followed up with an RBI single and Evan Knott (Canton/GlenOak) had a sacrifice fly RBI.
Mount Union added to the lead with a run in the fifth off a Morino sacrifice fly RBI and a run in the sixth as Sean Mohney (Lodi/Cloverleaf) drove on in on a fielder's choice to make the score 4-0.
The Raiders blew the game open with a three-run seventh as Grosscup drove in a run on a single while Steve Mitch (Sagamore Hills/Trinity) had a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 7-0.
Andrew Stull gave up six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits to take the loss on the mound for the Engineers.
