Softball Drops Two To Case Western Reserve

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - The Mount Union softball team was swept by Case Western Reserve in a non-conference series Monday afternoon. 

Case Western recorded a 4-2 victory in the first game of the series and won the second game 6-2. 

With the pair of victories, Case Western Reserve improves to 18-13 while Mount Union falls to 16-9. 

In the first game of the series, Rebecca Taylor earned the victory for the Spartans as she tossed a complete game and struck out nine to earn her 14th win of the season. 

The Spartans would take a 2-0 lead after one inning of play as Rachel Komar scored on an RBI single by Amy Taylor and Gena Roberts singled home Erin Dreger. 

Case Western Reserve added another run in the bottom of the second inning to increase their lead to 3-0. 

Junior Krista Leighty (Wooster/Triway) got the Raiders on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Spartans lead to 3-1. 

Kristen Klemmer scored on a passed ball for the Spartans to take a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning. 

Freshman Megan Okuda (Gibsonia, Pa/Pine-Richland) blasted her second home run of the season over the left field fence in the seventh inning, but it was not enough as the Raiders would fall 4-2 in the first game of the afternoon. 

In the second game of the afternoon, Marisa Kohley picked up the victory for Case Western as she pitched 4.0 innings and struck out two to earn her third victory of the season. Rebecca Molnar pitched 3.0 innings in relief and did not allow a hit to earn her second save of the season. 

Ashley Parello gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as she hit a sacrifice fly to right field which scored Rebecca Taylor. 

Senior Kristen Gromes (Navarre/Fairless) tied the game at 1 with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the third inning. 

Case Western Reserve would take the lead for good as they scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and added two more in the fifth inning and would go on for the 6-2 victory. 

Mount Union returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Columbus to face Capital in an OAC doule-header starting at 3:00 p.m.
