ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Mount Union softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Trine (Ind.), 2-1 and 8-0, on Saturday.

The Purple Raiders scored their only run in the third inning of the opener. Marissa Earl (Massillon/Massillon Washington) reached with a one-out single and eventually scored on an RBI single by Jasmine Bentley (Twinsburg/Twinsburg).

Trine's Jillian Craig smacked a game-tying RBI double in the sixth and Haleigh Daniels won the game with an RBI single in the ninth.

Bre Willis (Navarre/Fairless) worked the first seven innings for Mount Union, finishing with five strikeouts and one walk. Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) suffered the loss in relief.

The Raiders managed just three hits in game two while Trine's Tori Bluhm batted 3 for 4 with four RBIs.

Sarah Woody (Uniontown/Green) and Willis split time in the pitcher's circle. Woody, who worked the first 1 2/3 innings, recorded three strikeouts and two walks. Willis then pitched four innings of relief, finishing with three strikeouts and one walk.

Mount Union (7-5) will return to action next Saturday when it hosts Heidelberg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
