Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union volleyball team took care of Capital in an Ohio Athletic Conference quarterfinal match Tuesday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex. The third-seed Purple Raiders (22-7) advance to their eighth straight OAC Tournament semifinal with the 25-17, 25-12, 25-18 win over the Crusaders.
The Raiders came out determined not to drop the first two sets as they did in their first meeting of the season. Leading 9-8 in the opening set, Mount Union used a 10-3 run to swing momentum in its favor. They would never relinquish that momentum in cruising to victory.
Sophomore Taylor Webb (Geneva/Geneva) and freshman Nicole Snyder (Mentor/Lake Catholic) led the Raider attack with 10 kills apiece. The Purple Raiders had a team hitting percentage of .283, which is their best since playing Earlham (Ind.) on October 8 (.443). Senior Julie Radigan (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) had a team-high 31 assists on the night
Freshman Lauren Mastroine (Orrville/Orrville) and Radigan were integral to the Raider defense, recording 18 digs and 14 digs, respectively. Junior Deanna Glass (Medina/Medina) and Snyder tied for a team-high five total blocks.
Capital (20-12) was led by sophomore Sanaya El-Naggar with eight kills and 12 digs. Freshman Marissa Price had a team-best 16 assists.
The Purple Raiders return to action on Friday when they travel to Heidelberg to face Otterbein in the OAC Tournament semifinal. The Cardinals defeated Marietta, 3-0-, Monday night to advance to the semifinals. Mount Union and Otterbein have split their two previous matches this season, with Otterbein winning the most recent match, 3-0, in Alliance this past Saturday.
