Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's soccer team was unable to recover after allowing four first half goals and lost 4-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match to #25 Ohio Northern Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bear are ranked 25th in the lastest National Soccer Coaches Assocation of America poll.
Ashley Sams (Alliance/St. Thomas Aquinas) scored the only goal of the match for the Purple Raiders (5-4-2, 0-2 OAC) on a free kick in the 55th minute.
Ohio Northern's Sami Atkinson scored a pair of goals, both assisted by Alyssa Merrick, in the opening 17 minutes as the Polar Bears quickly took control of the game. Kristina Klusek and Sandra Thorarensen added goals for a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.
The ball remained on the Ohio Northern side of midfield most of the match as the Polar Bears (7-1-2, 2-0 OAC) outshot the Purple Raiders, 18-2. Taryn Vespoint (Ravenna/Ravenna) made three saves for Mount Union.
The Purple Raiders Return to action this Wednesday when they travel to Kenyon for their final non-conference contest of the season.
