(HIRAM, OH)--Mount Union junior Greg Ferrell (Uniontown/Green)
had four hits with a pair home runs and extended his school-record
hit streak to 25 games as the Purple Raiders belted out a
season-high 23 hits in a 16-8 rout of Hiram Tuesday at Fishel Field
in Hiram, Ohio.
Ferrell was not the only Raider with a big day at the plate as
senior catcher Connor Nell (Powell/Olentangy) also had four hits
and drove in four runs while junior first baseman Dan Henderson
(Canton/GlenOak) had his first home run of the season and drove in
four runs.
Junior third baseman Ty Wood (Hudson/Hudson) drove in two runs
and every starter for the Raiders registered at least one hit.
The first six Mount Union hitters reached base in both the first
and second innings as the Raiders' batted around and scored six
runs in each frame to take a commanding 12-0 lead.
Senior pitcher Paul Mariotti (Copley/Copley) started and
scattered seven hits over four innings to grab his first win of the
season.
Mount Union gets back-to-back wins to lift its record to 9-8 on
the season, while Hiram drops its 12th game in a row to fall to
3-18 overall.
The Raiders stay on the road and return to Ohio Athletic
Conference play Saturday at 1 pm with a doubleheader at Muskingum
in New Concord.
