(ALLIANCE, OH)-- Mount Union's softball team extended it's winning streak to seven games after sweeping Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader 3-2 and 9-1 in five innings Sunday afternoon at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
Mount Union now stands at 19-11 overall and 7-3 in the OAC, while Otterbein falls to 6-18 and 1-9 in the OAC.
Mount Union won the first game 3-2 on a walkoff single by right fielder Jill Rader (Ashland/Ashland), which scored third baseman Anna Horning (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge). Sophomore pitcher Bre Willis (Navarre/Fairless) improved her record to 7-6 after pitching a complete game and surrendering only two runs.
Junior catcher Mara Palombaro (Boardman/Cardinal Mooney) also launched a two-run home run over the left field wall in the fourth inning.
In game two, the Raiders bats came alive as they opened up the first inning by scoring four runs on five hits. Senior center fielder Meghan Allen (Hartville/Lake) led the charge for the Raiders' 9-1 victory by going three-for-three with three doubles and two runs batted in.
Junior second baseman Alex Lucak (Maple Heights/Trinity) also went three-for-three on the day and scored three times as well.
Freshman pitcher Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) had a strong outing on the mound by pitching a complete game and giving up only two hits. McAninch improved her record to 11-1 on the season.
Mount Union stays home to host John Carroll next Tuesday (Apr. 20) at 3:30 at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
