(BEREA, OH)--Mount Union's softball team posted 3-1 and 9-6 wins at Baldwin-Wallace to move into second place in the Ohio Athletic Conference Wednesday at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea, Ohio.
The Purple Raiders are now 17-11 overall and 5-3 in the OAC, while Baldwin-Wallace falls to 14-11 overall and 4-4 in the OAC.
In the 3-1 win in game one, sophomore pitcher Bre Willis (Navarre/Fairless) allowed just one run and struck out six as she went the distance to even her record at 6-6 on the season.
Junior Alex Lucak (Maple Heights/Trinity) and Anna Horning (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) each drove in a run as Mount Union took advantage of four B-W errors in the field.
In game two, Baldwin-Wallace took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first, before Mount Union scored four runs in the second and busted the game open with four more runs in the third on a grand slam home run from junior Jill Rader (Ashland/Ashland) to take an 8-1 lead.
Mount Union scored one more run in the fourth, then B-W put two unanswered on the board in the bottom of the fourth and rallied in the seventh inning with three more runs before Brittany Mayo (Greenville/Ansonia) came in and got the final two outs for the save.
Freshman pitcher Rachel McAninch (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) went 6.1 innings and picked up her 10th win of the season (10-1).
Aside from Rader's heroics, senior Meghan Simons (Minerva/Minerva) had three hits and drove in a run for Mount Union.
The Raiders return home to host Otterbein in an OAC series Saturday at 1 pm at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
