Late Goal Stops Women's Soccer Comeback

(ADA, OH)--Mount Union College's women's soccer rallied from two goals down to tie the match, before a score in the 87th minute gave Ohio Northern University a 3-2 Ohio Athletic Conference win Saturday in Ada.

Mount Union falls to 4-7-1 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while Ohio Northern is 8-4-1 overall and 2-1 in the OAC.

The host Polar Bears posted scores in the 14th and 36th minutes to lead 2-0 at the break.

Freshman Kelly Aughinbaugh (Aurora/Aurora) kicked in a shot from 25 yards out to bring the score to 2-1 in the 58th minute.  Just two minutes later, Aughinbaugh would send a shot in that deflected off the keeper to Taylor Simeone who put in the back of the net to tie the score at 2-2.

Ohio Northern would hit the game-winner in the 87th minute Angie Pisut got behind the defense and scored.

Junior Kaitlyn Mallernee kept the Raiders in the game with 16 saves as the Polar Bears had 19 shots on goal compared to eight for Mount Union.

The Raiders return home Wednesday at 7 p.m. to host Otterbein College in an OAC match at Mount Union Stadium.
