Box Score 2 Mount Union (4-8) finished with a 2-2 record on the weekend
after defeating tournament host Rose-Hulman (IN) by a score of 14-2
and falling to Edgewood (WI) 10-3 on Sunday, March 18 in Terre
Haute, IN.
Against Rose-Hulman (6-5), the Raiders jumped out of the gate
with 10 runs in the first four innings.
Offensively, first baseman Thomas Pfaus was 2-for-2 with three
RBI, catcher Jon Schulz was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and
rightfielder Jon Suntala drew four walks and scored twice. Kyle
Green replaced Schulz behind the plate in the seventh inning and
finished the contest 2-for-2 with his first career homerun.
Overall, the Raider totaled season-highs in both runs and base
hits (18).
Mike Reynolds (1-2) tossed seven shutout innings, allowing five
hits and no walks to pick up the victory.
The roles were reversed against Edgewood (6-4) as Mount Union
fell behind 8-2 in the second frame.
Greg Turk (0-1) started and took the loss while Brad Griffith
tossed 6.1 innings of relief with six strikeouts. Edgewood's Bill
Dictus (3-0) stayed unbeaten on the year, throwing a complete
game.
At the plate, third baseman Nate McFarland was 2-for-3 with his
first career round tripper. First baseman Cory Slaybaugh also
recorded two hits and drove in the other two Mount Union runs.
Mount Union returns to action on Wednesday, March 21 with the
team's home opener versus Hiram. First-pitch from 23rd Street Field
is set for 3:30 p.m.
